Jürgen Becker was honoured with the Günter Eich Prize in 2013. The Prize is awarded by Media Foundation to recognize outstanding lifetime achievements and special achievements in the field of German-language radio drama. "Listening to the spaces and landscapes in which he lived, he has become a historiographer of proximity. Thanks to Becker's attention to detail and the spoken word music he developed, the seemingly familiar everyday life becomes a radiophonic echo chamber that makes collective history tangible and tangible," the jury of the Prize stated in 2013.

"We have had the pleasure of getting to know Jürgen Becker as a joyful advocate of the German language who found a unique tone with his radio plays," says Stephan Seeger, Managing Director of Media Foundation. "Countless honors in recent years - including the Büchner Prize - demonstrate that contemporary German literature has lost one of its most important representatives in Jürgen Becker. At the same time, we extend our deepest condolences to his family," Seeger continued.
